Hand Vascular Works superbly as high security access control

Singapore 21 July 2003 -- Recently a Singapore-based multinational financial company replaced their entire card access system with hand vascular pattern recognition system. AGAIN, It's a biometrics! Biometric technology has been around for 3 decades in the market and fingerprint recognition has been the dominant leader in this industry.

Some of you might have heard of iris recognition and if you are a IT savvy person you might have heard of voice or face recognition, or even hand shape recognition. Now you have to conceptualize this new technology, HAND VASCULAR PATTERN RECOGNITION system – very long to remember. Anyway, this system uses your hand for identification as fingerprint or hand shape does. But this technology has a unique feature that uses only living vein pattern not dead one's. It means that it will reject on the attempt of dead vein scanning with no flowing vascular stream.

Hence, the company claims that duplication is impossible unlike its predecessors. "The technology bases on combination of the vein pattern algorithm and its branch image feature", said Puen Suan Wong, technical manager of VeID(www.veid.net), the system distributor in Singapore.

"As an employee holding a conventional access card, I always had phobia of losing the card. I had to hold it so carefully, so afraid to misplace it because a replacement of card would require me to pay $50. Another problem I had was I often left my card at home, then I had to go back to pick it up. Now with this system I don't' have to worry any more." said Ms Dawn Te , System Engineer of Standard Chartered Bank.

"In the Northern hemisphere countries like Korea, Japan, USA and Canada this system is no longer new. Many leading enterprises and government bodies benefit from this system. Especially, banking institutions are our biggest clients", said Kihwa Moon, managing director of VeID.

"In Singapore, we are talking with quite a few potential sites wanting to install the system at their computer laboratory and at their entire building in order to tighten their security level and leverage usability and convenience."

"Our VP-II is the first commercialized biometric security system based on Vascular Pattern Recognition technology." said the company's technical manager, Mr. Puen Suan Wong. Experts say that lack of System Usability is a major technical obstacle preventing market dissemination of biometric technology. However, this system boasts of 99.98% usability and accuracy (FAR: 0.0001%).

The technology make use of Infra Red sensitive closed circuit digital (CCD) camera located in the Reader, to acquire an image of the hand vascular pattern on the back of hand which will be stored into the database. When an individual place their back of the hand in the Reader, it will extract the image and compare with the data stored in the database. The product was developed by a Korean company, Techsphere, and has acquired patent for its technology in both Korea & the United States of America.

VeID Pte Ltd is a Singapore based company dealing with hand vascular pattern recognition security product and services in SE Asia. The company is the exclusive business partner with Techsphere, the vascular pattern recognition system developer and patent holder, in South Korea. It's office is at 545 Orchard Road, #04-21 Far East Shopping Centre (S) 238882 and its website, www.veid.net.
